Janssen 1824-1907
The French
astronomer Pierre Janssen was born on February 22nd 1824, he was a
solar astronomer who co discovered with Norman Lockyer the lines of Helium in
the Sun, which at that time were yet to be discovered on Earth.
He was nothing
if not adventurous and attempted to observe the solar eclipse of 22nd

war. He escaped in a balloon to watch
the eclipse but sadly the weather was poor.
