A Yorkshire Telescope in Shrewsbury
James
Cavan died on April 25th 1911, he was born in London in
1856 and educated at Harrow and Christ Church Oxford.
Throughout
his life he had a keen interest in astronomy and at his county seat
at Eaton Mascott Hall, Shrewsbury he built a well equipped private
observatory with a 7.5 inch photo visual Thomas Cooke telescope
(Cooke photo visual lens were made after 1894).
Most
of his life was devoted to the public business of the county of
Shropshire.
