Not the Pink Moon its The Egg Moon

Not the Pink Moon its The Egg Moon

The Full Moon in April is the Egg Moon not the Pink Moon.

I was suprised to hear the April Full Moon being described as the Pink Moon, yes it was a supermoon with the Moon being closer to us than normal but the Pink Moon description is a rather modern American term dating from the 18th century.

Monks 1,000 years ago living in Monasteries in England gave each Full Moon of the year its own name. It is these English names that should be used here in Britain.

The Egg Moon is so named because by April with spring approaching and the length of daylight hours inreasing the monks which has flocks of hens, ducks and geese started to see them lay more eggs.
